Rainwater in my anchor rode locker

Postby JeffCooper » Wed Aug 05, 2015 11:40 pm

Well, it's monsoon season in Florida... record rainfall.

I was aboard this evening for cocktails with friends. The bow was noticeably down in the water...so I opened up the anchor rode locker (which is huge), and it was FULL of water. I can pump it out with an electric pump I have...but how do I keep water out of there? Any ideas why this would fill up like that? Any ideas on how to fix it?

There must be a plugged drain at the bottom of the locker. Start pulling rode and snoop around!

Good luck.

I suspect you're right... sounds like I need to get to work. :-)

Wanted to check back in...the rode locker drain was clogged up with gunk (mud, bees nests, spider crap, or what ever. I jumped in the water with high pressure garden hose and blasted it all out backwards and now it drains just fine. Wasn't fun, but it did the trick!

Right! Wish this was the most major thing I've had to deal with that weekend!

I had a similar experience Jeff, but our anchor locker was bone dry.. what we found was the bottom of our mattress was wet a couple weeks ago while making the bed.. :o :o
Turns out, that I when I washed the boat a couple weeks prior, I had opened the anchor locker and cleaned out the spiders.. but in the process got some water sprayed in there.. and it leaked down inside the cabin and went right under our mattress.. So, I know exactly where to caulk now to solve it.. but had to let things dry back out first.. we also had to leave the mattress stand on end to dry and the cover will need to be removed for cleaning.. all was dry when we got back to the boat last Friday.. so, we thru it back together for our remaining 2 weekends. It's already on the list of winter projects. In addition to re-caulking.. I may also add some sort of drip edge to help divert any water away from this seam area.. ;)
